Plant City Cases vs Tampa Cases
Hillsborough County has two courthouses, one in downtown Tampa, and the other in Plant City. The Plant City courthouse serves the East Hillsborough region, which consists mainly of residents who reside east of Highway 301. If you live east of Highway 301, your case will probably be assigned to the East Circuit, and your case will be handled at the Plant City Courthouse, which is located at 301 N. Michigan Avenue, Plant City, FL 33563. There are two circuit court judges who serve the East Circuit, Judge Wesley D. Tibbals and Robin F. Fuson. These two judges reside over all of the Family law cases for the East Circuit. There are two county court judges, Art E. McNeil and Richard A. Weis, who reside over any Domestic Violence Injunctions that are filed in the East Circuit. This allows the attorneys who practice in Brandon, Plant City, Riverview, Valrico, Lithia, and other East Hillsborough areas a familiarity with the Judge's practices, since they appear before these particular judges on a more frequent basis. The Plant City Courthouse is easily accessible, and there is plenty of free parking across the street from the courthouse. There is a clerk's office on the 1st floor that is also easily accessible, and the wait time for service is usually less than at the main courthouse. There is also a Clerk's office located at 311 Pauls Drive, Suite 110, Brandon, FL 33511, which also has free parking and shorter wait times.
Plant City may feel a bit out of your way, but you may find the accessibility, free parking, and your attorney's familiarity with the judges, courthouse, clerk's office, opposing counsel, etc. a true benefit, and worth the extra drive.
